What he did not mention, alone 3 companies that developed synthetic fuel came from Germany, 2 of them are already closed again because of big oil companies that financed studies to make the solutions look bad. Universities all over Germany already developed different synthetic fuels, most of them just can’t be scaled to a higher volume or to a price a that could compete in a free market.
I’m so happy someone like Hammond is saying this. Hopefully it means more people will hear it and understand that this is the only viable solution and the only reason why we’re not hearing about it more is because all the rich and powerful people put their money in EVs and are hushing synthetic fuels
I git a great idea! Lets make synthetic fuels with electricity! This way we don't need to goge up on cars and car centric urban design. And to keep up production of these fuels, instead of using surplus from renewables we just use fossil fuels! Oh and we keep mining massive amount of metals and minerals so that we can keep making more cars. Also we need oil to make asphalt! Oh and air quality problems relating to ICE and all car wheels tearing the road surface to fine breathable particulate is not an issue, just buy a home from the countryside. And noise pollution? Just use noise cancelling earphones.
A bit like bio fuels where they are using ethanol as an additive. What they forget is all the farm land that has to be turned over to that. Ponders why food prices keep going higher and higher and poverty with it. Great ideas from academics that don’t live in the real world.
Why does he have a platform to speak about getting to net zero? Scientific qualifications = 0
as long as the governments keep a throat hold of their climate change agenda, we will be screwed. its their money pit. has been for the past 15 yeara
And where do the elements to produce these synthetic fuels come from, the planet!? Do they need to be dug out of the ground? I think everyone needs to realise that the reality of Net Zero is the same foolishness as what occurred in 2020. The Science offered is not what you think! 🤭😂😂😂 ps. Where does oil come from!?
What the hell is synthetic petrol lol
What's this from?
Are we planning on inventing a new form of lubrication? If I'm not mistaken, that's also oil.
Sad that these guys have become oil shills.
This clown cannot drive.
Porsche is awesome, I worked with them for years (the company not the cars), but they also expect you to purchase and own a few new models to get access to others, but Ferarri is mental.
damn he said gas stations, Hammond really is an American
Go Conor!!
Synthetic is a nice idea for classics, race cars and super cars all of which do very low milage per year… synthetic fuel has the same exhaust emissions as a normal fuel so it achieves nothing as far as air pollution and “net zero” is concerned which is the point of engines being banned in the first place, Fuel companies don’t have the ability or the interest to produce it in the volumes required to replace what we have now & People won’t pay £30 a gallon to buy synthetic fuel. electric is cleaner cheaper and easier to produce. Hence why engines are being banned.
What hasn't this been done a long time ago! Like he says, it's all there waiting to be used!
Synthetic fuel is a total red herring
Same old shit it’s all about money they just worry about money! Until they find a reliable replacement for the cash flow nothing will change
Big oil won't let go
I dont care who Richard Hammond tries to convince, but he aint 38 yrs old 😂
Energy requirements to make synthetic fulr right now is way way higher than electricity
Yeah have you heard of trains
Never say it's your last go
Crazy cause he was 6'5 before the crash but that shit shrunk him to 4'9
😂😂😂
Fuck! That's class...well played!
He's not giving the full story either... Synthetic fuel is $30 a gallon in the US
No cars are the option. Fuck cars. Bices trains etc cars are not effective or efficient. We need to get away from these space wasting boxes
Except for the fact that train and bus fares are pretty expensive and cant take you anywhere
@@crashbash8549 lots of lobbying from the auto industry to blame for that. Its the only way for ecological travel. Bikesand small e mobiles for schort trips and trains for the rest :) its the future. Just immagine a world without cars parked everywhere. Beutiful right?
@@sempi8159 it would but cars are still the most convenient option, and bikes can't hold multiple people or carry things well
@@crashbash8549 convinient for whom? Definitely not for the environment, pedestrians, cyclists, animals, free space.... Yes there are. They are called cargo bikes they can carry kids, friends and groceries. Most car rides are done alone anyway....
@@sempi8159 I'm just being realistic man, it's so much easier to quickly hop in the car and speed around to where you need to go, or pickup whatever or who ever you need fast, plus in cold weather people aren't going to want to start peddling. This is from the perspective of someone who lives in a family and has many different jobs
Problem with synthetic fuel, at least right now, is that its both costly and energy intensive to produce. Far too much so to be used at scale
it takes more oil to run 1 electric car than it takes to power a diesel semi... electric is not efficient.
Driving on water was invented i believe in the 60's. Man who invented it got suicided real quick.
Funny how everyone who ever invented a fueless engine magically vanished 🤔
Net zero is the .biggest money making con going... No matter how much the western nations cut back 2 of the biggest population countries (china and india) are growing their usage of fuels by 500percent in the next 5' 10 years. So we are saving the planet only for them to carry on ..
But how is everybody supposed to be getting electric car when they are 10 times more expensive until electric cars begin lowering prices people are
I just wish that they’d stop Telegraphing the BS about a Hydrogen Future until they sort proper Storage and extraction that is far more environmentally friendly ! There are also many natural Oils that could be harvested and processed to run in diesel technology, coconut and Seed oils being usable …
Fails to mention the hideous energy requirements to make synthetic fuels. There’s a reason it’s not considered
Only men.tal people support NET ZERO. Build some feckin new, nuclear power stations ; they are the greenest option.
HPC is being built
@@adventure_F0x We need more.
@@spanishpeaches2930 Sizewell C
How about no. Water cars are better
At last. Sense. Or, you can live in Elon’s employed scientists fever dream and wonder where all these batteries are coming from.
the only part ev's play is poisoning and destroying the planet.
That’s factually incorrect but ok
@@adventure_F0x The legal challenge which means claims of zero emissions can no longer be made speaks volumes.
@@OM617a a legal challenge doesn’t mean anything.
@@adventure_F0x It does, here in the Uk makers of ev's can only claim to have zero tailpipe emissions. I would have thought this is obvious as they lack a tailpipe, but the bigger picture is that manufacturers have accepted that they are not zero emissions vehicles.
@@OM617a nobody ever claimed they were truly zero emissions, literally nothing produced is truly zero emissions you’d have to be a proper idiot to not realise that
Spot on
Just missing the key information
Well said
Not really
Story is missing the price of these new fuels
The energy required to produce them is worse lol
The push for all electric is another elites driven idea. No one real actually wants because they know it isn't doable.
So what is doable then?
yes regular fossil fuel can be substituted by synthetic fuel without problems. no, synthetic fuels are not scaleable to supply global demand. sorry, the answer isn't that simple.
Synthetic fuels are currently being tested in many racing series globally now from endurance racing to historic racing.
Ironically, it was the nazis that invented synthetic fuel. A processs mysteriously lost after the Americans arrived..
Fun fact: the nazis had an extensive synthetic fuel program especially in the last couple years of the war to make up for oil shortages.
When you are a car show host but have no idea what you’re talking about because you have no science or engineering background or education 😂
this man is not a scientist
The national grid can't 100% guarantee electricity as it is and is always looking at new ways to generate and preserve. It's unlikely we'll ever have the capacity to have a 100% electric car population. With regards to the green argument, 60% of electricity is generated using fossil fuels. Electric cars by association are not as clean as they'd like us to think.
They’re still massively cleaner than combustion vehicles. As for the grid. If it can’t sustain EVs it won’t have a hope in hell of sustaining this
